The team even had a slogan of "Our Team, Our Year". That team got off to a rocky start and to make matters worse it was announced that Brendan Morrow would miss the season with a torn ACL in his right knee in mid-November. To make matter worse Marty Turco's performance was nothing close to his play a year ago. Then there was Sean Avery who was being a pest to everyone around him, including his own teammates. It all came to a boiling point on December 2nd when Avery commented on Dion Phaneuf and Jarret Stoll's girlfriends calling them "sloppy seconds". The NHL suspended him and the Stars parted ways with him for good. After he left the Stars improved and had a firm grasp onto a playoff spot for most of February. Then more injury news came as Brad Richards broke his right wrist, he returned 15 games later to break his left wrist, that along with other key injuries and the mediocre play from Marty Turco allowed the Stars to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2001-02 and to put out there worst point total since 1996-96.

2007/08 Preview (Oct 06 2008 4:44:59 PM)

The Dallas Stars shocked a lot of people around the hockey community last year as they upset the defending Stanley Cup champions and then the Pacific division champions in the first two rounds of the playoffs last year before losing in six games to the future Stanley Cup champions. However, the team ultimately fell short of their ultimate goal of winning their first Stanley Cup since 1999, a goal that is quite possible this year. With the addition of agitator Sean Avery as well as the Swedish prospect Fabian Brunnstrom who may just be a Calder trophy candidate. The Stars will need a division championship this year to avoid what happened in the playoffs last year. Look for Marty Turco to put up better numbers with more playing time this year, possibly good enough numbers to give him his first Vezina trophy. DSH predicts the Stars to finsh with a record of 47-25-10 good for 104 points and first in the division, but only second in the Conference. Morrow will lead the team in points with 77 points, seven more points the Riberio who will slow down compared to his break out year of 2007/08.

It should be a great season, GO STARS GO!

Barnes Signs As Coach (Aug 28 2008 12:34:52 PM)

Stu Barnes retired from the NHL on Thursday, after a sixteen year career, and was then signed to a two-year deal as the Dallas Stars new assistant coach. Stu, who has always been a fan favourite, had 261 goals and 336 assists in 1,136 games with five different franchises. The 5-11, 182-pound centre was selected with the fourth overall pick of the 1989 NHL draft by the Winnipeg Jets where he spent the first three seasons of his career, he then went to Florida, Pittsburgh and was part of the Buffalo Sabres during their cup run in 1999. On Thursday the Stars also announced that Assistant coaches Rick Wilson and Mark Lamb have been given two year extensions.

Stars New Alternate (Jul 24 2008 4:54:43 PM)

DSH has received information about the Dallas Stars new alternate from two different sources, one within the Dallas Stars organization and one sports retailer in Winnipeg. According to one source the new jersey will "be a white version of the black "DALLAS'' jersey they have now" and the Stars will be wearing it next season. A reader of DSH photo shopped what it should look like and sent it to me. I was unable to get the date when the jersey will become official or when the public will be able to buy it, however when more information becomes available DSH will have all the information.

Stars Acquire Lauri Tukonen (Jul 21 2008 10:50:00 PM)

The Stars announced today that they have acquired RW Lauri Tukonen, the Los Angeles Kings first round selection of the 2004 NHL entry draft. The Stars first pick went to goaltender Tyler Beskorowany of the Owen Sound. The 6' 4" 203 lb posted an impressive .901 Save Percentage on a rebuilding Owen Sound team. One of Beskorowany's teammates commented "He towers in net and is unbelievably quick for a big goalie. I shoot on him in practice, one-on-one, and he’s impossible to beat.”

Other picks included European Scott Winkler in the third round. Swedish prospect Philip Larsen was picked up in the fifth round.
